ITS A GO ! See you in the Morning !!!YOUTH SKILLS EVENT SATURDAY, JULY 27, 2024 Please Share. Good Day Everyone The Wildlife Division of the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture – will be partnering with us again this summer for a full-day youth event on SATURDAY, JULY 27 / 2024 at the Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association at 177 Goose Arm Road in Deer Lake. Details are being worked out for the day’s event. Lunch will be provided. We will have limited seating capacity for our youth which will depend on our number of available confirmed volunteers for this event. Any one wishing to volunteer with us during this event are asked to contact me asap so that we can establish our required numbers. 709 686 5228 or respond to this email. We are hoping that we have a good group of our membership volunteers assisting us with this valuable Youth Program. “Thank You Volunteers” for promoting the great outdoor activities through adventures such as these for our youth. With safety being the primary concern for everyone involved with shooting or other outdoor activity, practices for safe hunting and shooting sports are given the utmost attention. Should there be any health concerns, hand sanitizers, and wipes will be available. This event will provide an opportunity for our youth aged 12-17 to participate in shotgun, rifle, and archery in a safe environment under the direct supervision and guidance of experienced qualified instructors and volunteers. There will be a nominal registration fee of $10.00 per youth to participate in this event. The fee will be collected upon registration the morning of the event. All firearms, archery and other equipment along with related safety gear will be provided for the day by the Wildlife Division. No other equipment will be permitted. Participants will learn about wildlife, outdoor safety, wilderness survival skills, and responsible hunting practices. Our Youth will be given a discussion on being Outdoors Aware with emphasis on wilderness gear, safety, and responsibilities. There will be opportunities for youth to win prizes, and those participants between 12 to 17 years old will have their name entered in our Province’s Youth Hunting and Fishing Program draw for a chance to participate in a hunting or fishing activity. During lunch time, a competition to identify animals, ducks and other game birds, the judging of distances to animal and bird silhouettes, and other interesting material will be held. As part of the competition, Youth will be given some instruction on using compasses. There will also be a session on taking or reading compass bearings and giving distances between markers which will be a part of the competition. Participants are required to pre-register for the event. Registration will take place on a first-come, first-served basis until all our spaces are filled. After filling our seating capacity we will take some additional names for stand-by positions should someone not be able to attend and seating becomes available. All youth in attendance must be accompanied by a parent and / or guardian for the entire day. The Youth will be divided into 4 groups with each group rotating through all of the programs in a timely manner. The event will go ahead, rain or shine so dress according to weather conditions. Bring along rain gear and remember also to bring along sunblock and a hat. We are all aware of our ever changing Newfoundland weather conditions. Thank you for your interest in our partnered program for the Youth of Newfoundland and Labrador. By introducing the skills we are offering, we hope that our youth develop a heartfelt interest in outdoor sports through hunting, fishing, and conservation minded activities. The many skills and lessons learned by our youth on this day will be an introduction for many to a lifetime of safely enjoying the great outdoors and wilderness activities which we all share. In attendance for the day will be Archery Instructors. Members of a Search and Rescue team will be doing outdoor wilderness awareness and survival training. Media members will be invited. Members of the Wildlife Division and others from the Dept. of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture will be in attendance as well as members from Delta Waterfowl and Firearms Instructors and our Volunteers. We could also have invited distinguished guests. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED / PLEASE ADVISE if you can assist during the day. Volunteers are very important to the success of our activities and programs. Please make time to assist us during this event, please make us aware of which activity you are interested in assisting us….Remember, we also have kitchen and serving requirements as well as BBQ attendants for those moose burgers and sausages. In the past we have had good numbers of volunteers which has helped us immensely to a very successful process with smooth transitioning throughout the entire program. Without dedicated and treasured persons such as yourself coming forward and giving of your time, sharing your skills, programs such as this would not be possible. Your dedication and time with us is greatly appreciated by everyone !
